A relatively unknown fact is that almost every state in America produces wine, however, the vast majority of the production takes places in California.
California has a long history of wine making, with the first European vines being introduced by Christian priests in the 18th Century. Since then the industry had had its share of misfortunes: Phylloxera, Prohibition and most recently Pierce's disease.
Today the industry is in a good condition and California alone boasts more than 1290 wineries and 529,000 acres of land under vine. The UK is California's number one export market and that market is growing strongly.
