Australia is a vast country; the distance between Perth and the West Coast and Sydney on the East Coast is over 2,000 miles. The variety of wines available from Australia has never previously been as diversified and exciting as it is today. Australia is no longer about Shiraz and Chardonnay only.
Today a raft of new, interesting varieties is being produced and new emerging regions are delivering distinctive wines that reflect their origins.
Australia has long been famous for its blockbuster Shiraz, but styles vary enormously between different areas of the country and to illustrate this diversity we have listed several examples.
In order to celebrate the diversity of grape varieties we have also included some unusual wines such as a Petit Verdot as well as a few wines based on Italian grapes varieties that perform extremely well under Australian sun.
The white wine selection includes different styles of Chardonnay, a refreshing and mineral Riesling, an exotic Verdelho, a classic Sauvignon as well as the extremely rare and unusual sweet wine made with a grape called Noble Taminga.
