Spanish wines continue to perform well in the UK market in spite of ever increasing competition from the rest of the world. Two of the major reasons for this are the work carried out by the generic bodies and the recent reforms to outdated Spanish Wine Laws. These changes have enabled producers to bring wines to the market that reflect the needs of the modern consumer.
There are still a few issues to be resolved such as excessive yield, winery and oak management and inappropriate use of irrigation, but right now Spain is one of the most exciting wine producing countries in Europe.
